                     MIND HEALING MYASTHENIA GRAVIS

Healing begins with the mind first, and not the body. So the mind is everything in your life, including your healing of myasthenia gravis.

Albert Einstein
once said: "There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle." So, believe in self-healing, and live your life as if everything is a miracle-including the miracle to heal yourself of myasthenia gravis. Yes, self-healing is a miracle of life.

Ironically enough, modern Western medicine has led many to believe that healing is a complex process, involving high technology, complex drugs, and state-of-the-art procedures. It is human nature to learn belief systems, theories, and facts without challenging them. Truly, medical professionals are experts in their respective fields, and, obviously, they not only know more than we do but also have more experience than we have. However, that does not imply that we should readily and unconditionally accept their opinions without fully understanding what they are. Unfortunately, many of us are doing just that-going along with what they say, despite the many mistakes, even fatal ones, made by these professionals. As a matter of fact, according to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, more than 100,000 Americans died in hospitals from dangerous drugs or from their dangerous medication side effects in 1998.

To make the miracle of self-healing a reality for your myasthenia gravis immune disease, understand the essentials of self-healing.

The Power of Mind Healing

Healing begins with the mind first, and not the body

The mind is powerful in that it is the origin of all your thoughts, which determine not only who you are but also how you experience life. Life is a journey of experiences, throughout which the mind plays a pivotal part. Whether an individual is going to be healthy, successful, or happy in life depends on the power of the mind. Your mind power is the essence of your being. Your mind power holds the key to your recovery from any disease, including your myasthenia gravis. Every thought counts in your self-healing.

If you wish to combat, if not to cure yourself of, an autoimmune disease, you must first and foremost have the intent to heal, without which there is no self-cure or self-healing, and your battle against your autoimmune disease is already half-lost.

With intent, come concentration and focus to seek self-help to empower yourself with knowledge of self-healing, without which you may be at a loss as to what to do. Out of ignorance, many simply turn to conventional medicine for treatment; unfortunately, it may be a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Mind power is also evidenced in its capability to create "reality." Yes, it is all in the mind, and it is always mind over matter.

A powerful mind can produce positive thoughts, which affect not just your body and your emotions, but also your genes. According to scientific studies, how your mind processes your daily experiences can turn on or turn off a particular gene responsible for a particular ailment or disease. In other words, there is a close body-mind connection with respect to health and healing.

So, utilize your mind power to create the “reality” of healing for your myasthenia gravis. That is, you need visualization, which is the ability to see “reality” in your mind’s eye. Seeing is believing: “seeing” the positive result of your efforts through positive images reinforces your “believing” that you will be cured of your myasthenia gravis.

The road to health and recovery from an autoimmune disease is never direct or smooth: it is always paved with roadblocks and obstacles in the form of relapses and remissions. As a result, you will need determination and perseverance before you can reach your goal of self-healing.

Given the uniqueness of each individual's physical and physiological makeup, you must use your own imagination and creativity to devise your own methods of self-healing.

Visualization is a powerful tool for enhancing your mind power for mind healing to initiate the subsequent body healing.

NATURAL HEALING -- A MYTH OR A REALITY?

Is natural healing a myth or a reality? It’s all up to you to decide.

Natural healing is holistic healing. It is a process by which a person’s health is restored in the most natural way without the use of conventional medicine throughout the healing process. The human body is blessed with divine gifts in the form of natural resources that enable not only the enhancement of health but also the freedom from any type of illness.

Natural healing is effective because it uses the power of the mind through affirmation and visualization, meditation, the goodness of nature through natural herbs and healthful foods, and the energy of your body through hand massage, yoga, and acupuncture to bring about healing of the body, the mind, and the soul. To prevent any future relapse and to guarantee long-term cure, the healing has to be complete and wholesome. In addition, in natural healing, there is no need to take any form of chemicals or to undergo any invasive procedure, which may not only produce negative side effects but also interrupt with the natural healing process.

Natural healing has long proven to be a very good alternative to the traditional way of healing practiced by medical doctors. As a matter of fact, many natural healing clinics have sprung up across the United States. People are using natural healing techniques more than anything else mainly because they are highly effective with minimal or zero negative side effects, and they are less expensive than treatments of conventional medicine.

Be a natural healer of your own myasthenia gravis.

Firstly, you must know the difference between healing and treatment: treatment originates from the outside, whereas healing comes from within; treatment aims at removing symptoms of disease, while healing tackles the source of disease.

Next, natural healing begins with the mind first. Your mind controls your body, and everything you do and think. Therefore, to heal, your mind must express the intention to heal, without which there is no cure or healing. Your intention to heal is then manifested in focus, which directs your mind toward the goal to heal. To reach that goal, you need resources; that is, you must empower yourself with knowledge so that you may know how to heal yourself. Knowledge is power: it may establish a connection to your true self, and thereby instrumental in allowing you to make the right health decisions and to live your life in a lifestyle in accordance with your higher purpose. Through the many facets of mind power, such as affirmation, visualization, and meditation, your mind then begins its healing process. Healing begins with the mind, and mind healing is always mind over matter. Natural healing is always slow: it does not happen overnight. You need to set your goals, and make your commitment, which is your mental responsibility. Living is a challenge, and so is healing. During the healing process you may have to face different challenges and even setbacks before you can ultimately overcome the illness.

Natural healing is a miracle by itself. Bu you must believe in it first, then empower your mind with knowledge to prepare your body for the natural healing process. With the help of your soul or spirit, you can then initiate natural healing as if everything is a miracle.

EMPTY YOUR MIND TO HEAL MYASTHENIA GRAVIS

Prevention is always better than cure. If there is no disease, where is the need for a cure or even a doctor?

Take the step of maintaining optimal health and wellness in the body, the mind, and the soul, irrespective of your current conditions of your myasthenia gravis.

Nobody knows your body better than yourself; you have been living with it for years, if not decades. It is more than just treating a disease: it is also using that disease as a tool for understanding yourself-or, more specifically, why you have been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis in the first place. It may give you the knowledge and wisdom to live in balance and harmony, thereby instrumental in initiating your healing with or without your doctor.

Remember, you do not have to follow any specific program or even the advice of anyone, maybe even including that of your doctor.

An Illustration

You need not follow the advice of former President Bill Clinton with respect to his dramatic weight loss-simply because you are not Bill Clinton, and your body’s constitution is not the same as that of his. Therefore, what is good for Bill Clinton may not necessarily be good for yourself. Nor do you have to impose any deliberate discipline on yourself. The reason is that any imposition may stimulate your inherent resistant nature. Discovering your own sensitivity to life is often more important than your rigidity.

The TAO Wisdom

According to the TAO, the wisdom of Lao Tzu, the ancient sage from China more than 2,600 years ago, an empty mind paves the way to both unlearning and relearning. Emptiness is synonymous with simplicity and receiving-the former is living a simple lifestyle with humility to develop an empty mindset to let go of all your attachments; the latter is the readiness and the capability to self-intuit true knowledge and profound wisdom.

Wisdom, which is invisible, intangible, and invaluable, is emptiness, which comes only from an empty mind:

“The spokes and the hub are the visible parts of a wheel.
Clay is the visible material of a pot, which is useful because it contains.
Walls, doors, and windows are visible parts of a house.

We always look for the visible and the tangible without.
But what really matters is the invisible and the intangible within.”
(Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, Chapter 11)

According to the TAO, to attain knowledge, add things every day, but to attain wisdom, remove things every day too:

“Seeking the Creator,
we give up something every day.
The less we have,
the less we need to strain and strive
until we need to do nothing.
Allowing things to come and go,
following their natural laws,
we gain everything.
Straining and striving,
we lose everything.”
(Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, Chapter 48)

The explanation is that “less is for more” and not “more is for more” according to the contemporary thinking mind:

“Without going out the door, we know the world.
Without looking out the window, we see the Creator.
The more we look outside ourselves,
the less we know about anything.

Trusting the Creator, the ancient prophets
knew without doing, understood without seeing.
Trusting the Creator, we accomplish without striving.”
(Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, Chapter 47)

On your healing journey, you must learn, unlearn, and relearn from anyone, anything, and any situation:

“Everything that happens to us is beneficial.
Everything that we experience is instructional.
Everyone that we meet, good or bad, becomes our teacher or student.

We learn from both the good and the bad.
So, stop picking and choosing.
Everything is a manifestation of the mysteries of creation.”
(Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, Chapter 27)

In your healing process, you do not set any goal or have any objective in your learning, unlearning, and relearning. The explanation is that setting any goal or having any objective will make you judge and choose, and thereby instrumental in pre-conditioning your thinking mind with respect to your learning, unlearning, and relearning about your myasthenia gravis:

“The foolish all have goals.
The wise are humble and stubborn.
They alone trust the Creator,
and not the world He created.”
(Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, Chapter 20)

To sum up, on your healing journey, you need to have an empty mind to learn, unlearn, and relearn everything about your health. After all, it is your health, and only you have the answers to why you may be unhealthy, and how you may heal yourself.

WHY DRUGS DO NOT HEAL MYASTHENIA GRAVIS

Autoimmune disorders, including myasthenia gravis, occur when your immune system attacks your own body cells or tissues, instead of the foreign invaders from the outside. In other words, your dysfunctional immune system results in the occurrence of autoimmune diseases, which plague millions of Americans. Worse, there are over one hundred types of such disorders, which come in many different forms affecting many different organs and tissues.

Unfortunately, there is no known cure for any autoimmune disorder because the causes are still medically unknown: it could be due to genes, the toxic metals in the environment, the lifestyle, and a host of other factors contributing to the complications of autoimmunity.

As of now, the medical community strives to control the symptoms of autoimmune disorders using immune suppressants. Essentially, they are drugs to suppress the overactive immune system. The objectives of such treatment are to alleviate the many symptoms and to slow down the disease progression. This mainstay of treatment is not only ineffective for many autoimmune diseases but also dangerous for the patient. By suppressing the potency of the autoimmune system, these immune suppressants may also increase the risks for infections and cancer.

Most of these new drugs targeting specific immune cells are synthetic corticosteroids. They might be able to control some of the disease symptoms, but at the expense of creating many more chemical toxins that will only further make the immune system dysfunctional further down the road.

So, what should you do about your myasthenia gravis?

From my own perspectives (About 3 decades ago, I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis), a holistic approach is the only option. But before you can do that, you must have the right mindset, which is the ancient wisdom of TAO, because any healing begins with the mind and not the body.

                                                     STEROID THERAPY FOR MYASTHENIA GRAVIS

Steroid therapy is the use of steroid medications, also known as corticosteroids, to treat many types of autoimmune disease, including myasthenia gravis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis, and other disorders, such as asthma. Steroid medications may include some medications like prednisone and cortisone. Corticosteroids can be taken orally or in other ways, such as by inhalation.

According to Western medicine, steroid medications are medically necessary to treat many conditions and diseases. But steroid medications have major effects on the metabolism of calcium and bone, which may lead to severe bone loss, osteoporosis, and bone fractures. As a matter of fact, high dosage of steroid medications can cause rapid bone loss, up to as much as 15 percent per year. If you are on steroids, you are more than twice as likely to have a fracture on the spine, or the ribs, as compared to a person not taking steroids. In addition, there are even different rates of bone loss among individuals on corticosteroids. Bone loss occurs most rapidly in the first six months after starting oral steroid medications. After 12 months of chronic steroid use, there is a slower rate of bone loss. Fracture risk generally increases as the daily doses of steroid medications increase, although not all patients who take steroid medications experience bone loss.

Other adverse side effects of steroid medications are elevation of blood pressure, weight gain, decreased resistance to infection, indigestion, thinning of skin, and potential development of cataracts and glaucoma.

For example, prednisone is a medication that is commonly prescribed for ocular myasthenia. However, four factors should be carefully considered prior to the use of steroids, especially if your myasthenia gravis is related only to ocular muscles:

·Can steroids improve or eradicate your symptoms?

·Are there other safer forms of therapy to treat your myasthenia gravis?

·Does the severity of the symptoms warrant the risk of steroid adverse effects?

·Do steroids reduce the chance of a relapse?

It stands to reason that the high risk of taking pharmaceutical drugs to treat only the symptoms without producing a cure may not warrant the continuation of the medications over a long period.

The bottom line: Set your goal to ultimately stop all medications. It may take weeks, months, or even years, but that should be your goal in your health pursuit.

·Do not stop all medications right away.

·Talk to your doctor about your concern. Express your wish to reduce your medications slowly and gradually.

If your doctor does not agree to your suggestion, look for another naturopathic doctor. No matter what, make it your ultimate objective to stop ALL medications eventually.

                                                         ANCIENT WISDOM IN HEALING

To be diagnosed with myasthenia gravis is a devastating experience, especially when your doctor told you there is no known cure to date, except managing the symptoms of your autoimmune disease. Don't feel desperate and despondent because you have no idea how you got the autoimmune disease; despair will only lead to worsening of your autoimmune disease symptoms. Self-efficacy, which is self-belief, is critically important in healing any disease. Since time immemorial, it has been human nature to get healed from disease and disharmony in the body and the mind. For thousands of years, physicians and sages have acquired and assimilated wisdom in healing.

What is wisdom in healing?

Wisdom is the ability to interpret information to influence one's choices in actions that will ultimately transform the body and the mind. Wisdom in healing is therefore the use of right choices for right actions to facilitate the natural self-healing process innate in humans.

The wisdom of some of the ancient health and healing systems manifests the importance of holistic wellness and the power of natural healing:

(1)
Hippocrates (born around 450 B.C.) was the Father of Medicine. His Greek medical system was based on moderation for a balanced lifestyle in harmony with nature for natural healing. Hippocrates once said: "A wise man ought to realize that health is his most valuable possession and learn how to treat his illnesses by his own judgment." In other words, if an individual takes good care of his or her health, that individual is in fact saying: "Doctor, you're fired!"

(2) The Tibetan health system came under the influence of
Buddha, and Tibetan monks who practiced compassion and mindfulness. Tibetan medicine emphasizes virtuous conduct, a healthy diet, regular daily activity, and seasonal routines to promote all-round health and natural healing. In addition, its medical system heavily relies on herbal cures for natural healing. For more information on Tibetan natural healing, go to: The Five Tibetan Rites, a set of physical activities to promote physical and mental wellness.

(3) The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) also embraces an extensive herbal medicine. For thousands of years, Chinese doctors have believed that "qi" (internal life energy) flows throughout the body by way of channels or meridians. This internal life force is capable of continuous circulation to provide oxygen and nutrients to different parts of the body when there is balance between opposite forces of "yin" and "yang." Essentially, these internal “qi” energies are energies of the universe. Imbalance results in stagnation or blockage of "qi", which is the cause of disease. (For more information, visit my website:
Chinese Natural Healing

(4) The Ayurveda system in India is the "science of life" that has been practiced for thousands of years. This medical system advocates all-inclusiveness for natural healing. Essentially, any doctrinal or ideological imperative must defer to the well-being of the patient. In other words, Ayurveda not only eliminates the process of disease but also restores the health of the patient to its original physical, mental, and emotional wholeness.

The major difference between the wisdom of these long-standing health systems and that of modern Western medicine is that the former focuses on the prevention and natural healing, while the latter emphasizes the current cure and the removal of disease symptoms. There is a saying that if the only tool you have is a hammer, then everything looks like a nail to you. For Western doctors, their hammers are the prescription drugs. They emphasize eliminating the symptoms of disease, instead of eradicating the causes.

Western medicine provides invaluable medical knowledge through experimental research, while the ancient medical systems provide wisdom. Knowledge does not necessarily make one wise; true wisdom is the intuition, interpretation, and application of right knowledge.

To find out more about wisdom in living, read my book:
The Book of Life and Living.

The first step toward coping with myasthenia gravis is to empower yourself with knowledge about the autoimmune disease, and then take appropriate actions to eradicate its symptoms. Healing is possible if you believe it.
